In the early part of 2017, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be publishing the update from the 2010 Care Guidelines which was an evidenced based review of recommendations for boys and young men with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). This presentation will focus on the updated recommendations for the medical and rehabilitation care for this group of patients. Specialists from cardiology and pulmonology will review the cardiopulmonary recommendations. Rehabilitation physicians will provide an update on the rehabilitation and orthopedic issues as well as a review of the recommendations for bone health and transitional care. Finally, a neurologist will review the pharmacological treatments as this area has exploded with the first FDA approved treatment for boys with DMD as well as a multitude of clinical trials available to this patient population. The faculty involved with this presentation are all specialists in the care of children and young adults with neuromuscular conditions and provide care within a neuromuscular interdisciplinary clinic that is nationally recognized. Dr. Apkon will moderate this panel as well as serve as a presenter and is a member of the CDC work-group who is publishing the guidelines.
