The learning center will demonstrate proper performance of sensory and motor nerve conduction studies (NCS) of upper limbs for accurate diagnosis of carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS). Discussion will include potential errors and their avoidance, some errors will be intentionally created in demonstration. Both sensitivity testing and specificity will be discussed in relation to diagnosis. The use of Robinson's combined sensory index (CSI) will be explained. The utility of assessing conduction block of both sensory and motor action potentials will be shown. Severity grading systems in the literature will be discussed, as well as special testing to assess the most severe cases of CTS.
- Perform the NCS techniques required for the CTS Combined Sensory Index.
- Design an EDX study for a patient with possible CTS.
- Understand the available systems for grading severity of CTS.
